PayEd Payments Express
First up, David travelled to Money 20/20 Europe in Amsterdam on the PayEd Payments Express during which David and Alistair Milne delivered a masterclass on the go around the use cases for the “digital pound” in response to its initial consultation. Despite some train delays the discussion lit a fire for great communal experiential learning for those on the Express!

Crypto and Beyond: The Future of Digital Payments
Next up, David was on stage to take part in the Money 20/20 Europe session entitled ‘Crypto and Beyond: The Future of Digital Payments’ alongside Myles Stephenson of Modulr and Sendi Young of Ripple. The session explored what a blockchain-based payment landscape might look like and how it might alter the way people do business as well as how blockchain interacts with the latest trends in payments and finance and how they can combine to provide safe, intuitive and tailored payment journeys. Some of the key takeaways as noted by Mireale Ciobanu at Banking and Fintech:
1️⃣ Cryptocurrency is not just about Bitcoin and investments. It’s about tokenization and goes beyond that, encompassing technology and governance.
2️⃣ With our increasing online presence, payment methods need to evolve accordingly. Crypto and digital assets have ample room to reshape the way we transact in sync with our lives.
3️⃣ Blockchain’s real impact lies in cross-border payments, addressing the inefficiencies and challenges of traditional methods.
4️⃣ AI is the game-changer technology, disrupting industries in unimaginable ways.
5️⃣ Machine-to-machine payments will skyrocket transaction volumes, necessitating new payment processing rails. The future calls for innovative infrastructure to accommodate this growth.
6️⃣ Prepare for a future where payments are boring but efficient.
7️⃣ In this changing payment landscape, businesses must capture customer attention through transparency, delivering high-quality service, and providing reliable solutions.
As David put it after the panel: “Tired: Banks playing with AI. Wired: Customers playing with AI.”
