Money 20/20 Europe 2024

What a fantastic event Money 20/20 Europe 2024 was this year in Amsterdam! Having donned his Consult Hyperion hat for 3 days, Dave went home and slept for 12 hours straight! What a superb event! We have to hand it to their team: generating such a great atmosphere is a real challenge, but they delivered once again. Dave had such a good time catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.

A few highlights:

Speaking: The Rise of The CustoBot – Fireside Chat with Kirsty Rutter

Being on the Singularity Stage with the amazing Kirsty Rutter of Lloyds Banking Group. Based on their landmark paper in the Journal of Digital Banking:  “Where are the customers’ bots? The AI paradigm shift in retail banking”, David & Kirsty discussed the opportunities for fintechs arising from customers getting AI rather than banks and how this will revolutionise retail finance.

The Rise of The CustoBot

Key points:

In the future when open finance properly meets GAI;

* Your selected finance savvy personal AI bot will manage your finances on your behalf

* Banking will be done “bot-to-bot” – you bank’s bot will be its primary point of contact

* The differentiator in banking will be as much about API security, latency & product ethics as it is pricing

Their session on the real AI revolution in retail financial services got the kind of feedback that Dave could only have dreamed about

Speaking: Signicat Fireside – Discussion on key findings from “The Battle Against AI-driven Identity Fraud”

Signicat recently commissioned a study with Consult Hyperion entitled “The Battle Against AI-driven Identity Fraud” and they invited Dave to their stand to chat about the findings.

Alongside their CPMO Pinar Alpay they had an insightful discussing the key findings of the first-ever study on AI-driven identity fraud including:

  • Identity fraud attempts have increased by 74% over the past three years, and AI significantly contributes to this alarming trend!

Money 20/20 Europe 2024 Event – Money In The Park

The food-in-the-park event was fantastic despite the downpour of rain half way through the evening. Loved the food, the company and the conversations with some of my favourite payment friends including Michelle Beyo, Danny Russell and Nektarios Liolios.

Stand: UK Pavilion – Money In The Metaverse

The team heading up the UK Pavilion at Money 20/20 Europe 2024 kindly asked Dave to come along to the stand to present on his new book Money in the Metaverse written with Victoria Richardson who couldn’t be at the event this year :(!

Moderating – “It’s Make or Break Time for A2A: Are You In?”

Then Dave quickly headed over to one of the biggest stage’s at this year’s event, the Nat.i.stage where he moderated the panel entitled “It’s Make or Break Time for A2A: Are You In?”

It's Make or Break Time for A2A: Are You In? Dave and the other panellists on stage with a packed audience at the Nat.i.ure stage.

It’s Make or Break Time for A2A: Are You In?

With panellists Charles Damen (Chief Product Officer, Token.io), Jana Mackintosh (Managing Director – Payments and Innovation, UK Finance) and Kate Fitzgerald (Head of Policy, Payment Systems Regulator) the team discussed how A2A payments aren’t overhyped—but they do face a make or break moment for banks, retailers, users or TTPs. Whether by carrot or stick, regulators will get their wish for an alternative to cards. But with pilots for commercial VRP looming, A2A payments can only disrupt cards’ duopoly if we get the next steps right. These four central parts of the puzzle outlined their thoughts on A2A and its effect on their part of the ecosystem.

Afterwards Dave said:

What an interesting discussion and I could tell from the questions coming in on Slido that this is going to be one of the central topics for next year’s Money20/20.

Stand: Enfuce Book Signing & Podcast – Money In The Metaverse

Dave had a great time signing copies of his new book over at the Enfuce booth where they were also serving ice cream next to their sauna podcast studio! Dave was very grateful to them for the invite and then taking the time to record a podcast with him in said sauna:

It worked brilliantly and I love the fact we had a line of people waiting to meet Dave and get their booked signed.

FYI we ran out of books in 1 hour and were asked throughout the rest of the show “if we find any spare could they have one! “

I love the fact that we had industry leaders fan girling over meeting Dave. My personal fav was Seamus Smith.

Thank you and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
