Future of Money Design Awards 2024
Pleased to announce…. This years Future of Money Design Awards! The awards this year are kindly sponsored by Moneyhub and Supported by Sheffield Hallam University. David Birch is happy to have been involved again this year!
The brief for this year’s Future of Money Design Awards is as follows:
The National Health Service was created to take care of the workforce of Britain. Not only to keep citizens well for their own sake, but also for the sake of the country that relied on their productivity, labour, or expertise. In this respect, competition gave way to collaboration and individual health became of collective and national interest.
The NHS helps maintain our bodies and minds, but arguably another factor in society impacts longevity and life as much as health… wealth. Yet wealth isn’t seen as a collective goal. Could this change? If we were all wealthier, tax returns increase, GDP increases, and quality of life improves. Wealth and how we frame it is so much more than individual benefit. As the brilliant John Ruskin stated…
“There is no wealth but life…”
- What if we could do for wealth what we did for health?
- What would that look like?
- What would a National Wealth Service provide to the citizens of the UK?
- What role would it play?
For this year’s Future of Money Design Awards, we challenge creative thinkers and makers (of all types) to speculate and create a vision of a National Wealth Service.
Event sponsors MoneyHub use the following unique hand drawn map to articulate its vision for everyone:

This is a huge task, so you don’t only need to look at the bigger picture, you could focus
- on a small core aspect within traditional financial services – like digital access or literacy, education in financial principles, coping / managing debt
- on proposing new services that increase meritocratic wealth opportunities or even encouraging philanthropy
- or propose using a technological tool to provide a solution
- or envisage a shift in cultural values that changes the impetus that drives wealth creation etc.
WHO CAN ENTER
Anyone!!! However, final concepts need to be communicated effectively via a short video (if shortlisted as a finalist). Hence if you don’t have skills in visualisation, but have a great idea, perhaps befriend someone who can help? If you are a brilliant social scientist with an innovative approach, perhaps join forces with a designer or artist?
SUBMISSIONS
The competition will run in two phases:
FIRST PHASE – Initial Idea
Please submit an overview of your ‘National Wealth Service’ concept (ideally with illustrations) as a PDF. Maximum 3 pages communicating the concept and examples of previous work (website or PDF).
Deadline for submission 28th March 2024 | Send entries to enter@futuremoneyaward.com
All submissions will be reviewed and three finalists will be selected to progress to the final phase. We’ll give each of the three finalists £500 to develop their idea and produce a short video.
Please do not enter if you believe you can monetise your concept, we are looking for insights and inspiring ideas, not patentable tech.
FINAL PHASE – Award ceremony and announcement of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place
Finalists will need to be able to present their videos and concepts for judging into 1st, 2nd and 3rd place at MoneyHub’s Annual Client Conference in London on Wednesday 15th May 2024 (at The Museum of London in Barbican).
The designs and more broadly a celebration of the National Wealth Service will be very much enjoyed by this group of companies in attendance. It is time to shine for you as designers and artists.
