Biometrics Institute Congress 2023

Welcome Back Mr Bond!

This week, David Birch put on his tuxedo for a second time this year (normally this honour is reserved only for the Pay360 Awards!) to deliver a presentation to the Biometrics Institute Congress 2023 entitled ‘: 007 we know you are coming!’ During this presentation David touched on how much more difficult it would be for 007 to travel the world covertly in this day and age. Reputations can take months or years to build for them to be believable so what’s the solution? David highlighted that Biometric Identification seems convenient so Biometric Authentication would be a better way forward, using verifiable credentials to prove what you are rather than who you are but even that would have its limitations…

Biometrics Institute CEO, Isabelle Moeller commented: “Absolutely loved it!”. Follow Dave on Forbes and/or Substack to hear more about his views on these topics.

Panel Discussion: The State of Biometrics – current status and future impacts

Following David Birch’s key note, he then also took part in a panel on the state of biometrics, its current status and future impacts based on the Institutes latest report and based on the four key themes identified in the report:

🔹 Biometrics, cyber security and privacy – The good, the brazen or the breached?
🔹 Generative artificial intelligence (AI) – Friend or foe?
🔹 Explainability and trustworthiness – The less you know, the more you believe
🔹 Maturity of digital identity – A need to cooperate and interoperate

It was a lively and fascinating discussion with fellow panellists:

David Birch, Author, Advisor and Commentator on Digital Financial Services
Megan McLarnon, Global Privacy & Data Policy Lead, Meta
Mick O’Connell, Future Direction Group Member, Biometrics Institute

and moderated by Jakob Dam Glynstrup, Chairman and Director, Biometrics Institute.
